Need Help With Your Content Marketing?

I know you’re busy, and don’t have time to write blog posts or create content to market your home inspection business . So I created the Inspector Branding Content Club. A Blog Post Library, Content Calendar, & more content you can put your own twist on, watermark, and post as your own.

Introduction: Getting Started Online

First things first, this isn’t a “how-to” website for becoming a home inspector. We’ll leave that for the professionals like InterNACHI.

Outside of getting trained and certified, the next most important decision to make is naming your home inspection business. But before we dig into naming your business, we need to have an understanding of a few more things.

Your clients PAY YOUR BILLS! Don’t you think you should try to understand them more so you can help them more?

That is what the Client Compass is. It will walk you through understanding WHO your target market is. Then it will cover the journey they take before and after the home inspection. If you don’t understand the journey they’re on, you can’t help them through it. If you can’t help them through it, you’re just a stop on the journey, like a gas station on the trip to the beach.

Use the “Client Compass & Target Market Guide” to help you have a better understanding.

Naming Your Home Inspection Business

Know Your Exit Before You Name Your Business

This very well may be the most important blog post I’ve written on Inspector Branding. It’s important because it stands at the center of everything that you’re going to do to market, advertise, brand, and grow your business.

Before you get to the next step, you should have an understanding for your “EXIT”, or “Long-Term Goal”. This is a lesson the Navy SEAL that killed Bin Laden taught me years ago

Understanding what you’re going to be growing your home inspection business into, helps you know what direction to go into when naming the business.

If you are thinking about building a brand have a career and eventually sell the business, your last name isn’t going to be a good name for the business.

Branded Username

This is also an important blog post. Your “Branded Username” (or BU for short) is how people find your business/brand online. When done properly, your Branded Username will be unique and uniform ON ALL PLATFORMS!

This means that if your “BUSINESS NAME” is “Client First Trusted Home Inspections” you can have a “Branded Username” as “clientfirsthis” for example.

So the application of your BU would fit your domain (clientfirsthis.com), facebook, instagram, twitter, etc (@clientfirsthis).

This makes it easy for your clients to find you online.

Not only does a high-quality logo show your clients who you are, but it also differentiates you from other inspectors and creates a powerful memory in the minds of your followers.

Brand Icon/Favicon

The “Website Icon” (or for the older crowd, the “Favicon”) is the small image that is normally on the left of the website title within the internet browser. This, in my opinion, is the first part of branding your website properly.

While this is a step that is for website design, it is a part of your branding.

Start Your Digital Footprint

Now that you have a Branded Username, it’s time to “Claim” it.

Claiming Your Name

The process of “Claiming Your Name” online can take some time, but if you don’t do it when you start, you risk the potential of someone else registering your domain, or getting the handle you want on Instagram. So take the time in the beginning and do it right the first time.

Even if you plan on having a custom email address with your domain, you should use Gmail.

You can check all of your email through Gmail and so much more.

You will need a Gmail account in order to use Google Voice, YouTube, or Google My Business (GMB, for short, is the “Reviews” part of Google)

When it comes to putting your phone number online, sometimes you don’t want to put your personal number. Having a secondary number from Google Voice allows you to not only forward your calls but you can text, set “Do Not Disturb” mode, and more … FOR FREE!

At the core, I like Google Voice because it allows me to keep my business texts and calls in one place.

When you want to start a website, the first thing you need is a domain name. This is the address of your site on the internet, and it’s what people will use to find you.

When you want to start a website, the first thing you need is a domain name. This is the address of your site on the internet, and it’s what people will use to find you.

There are a few things you want to think about when choosing your domain name, because it can have a big impact on how people perceive your business.

Professionalism is key when building a successful brand. Nothing screams amateur more than a default Gmail, Yahoo, or Hotmail address. Especially if you are using your old email address from your younger years. FunnyGuy82@Hotmail.com IS NOT a good email address for your business.

Now that you have your domain, you can use HostYak’s email service to get a professional email address with your domain.

As we go through the different platforms, you’ll see that the sign up process may be a little different on each platform. In this section, our focus is going to be getting the platforms where we can register your branded username as a “handle/username”.

There are platforms that require growth before you can get a unique URL or “handle”. For example, YouTube requires you to have 1,000 subscribers before you can get your own unique URL (youtube.com/yourbrandsname)

So remember when you do get your own unique URLs to update them on your website & other places where they are listed.

NOTE: There are literally hundreds of social media apps/websites, so we’re only going to cover the main platforms.

What You Need To Create Social Media Profiles.

All platforms have different features and specific needs. So this isn’t going to be X marks the spot and a post that will cover everything for each platform. Instead, this will have the core needs to go through the “Claim Your Username” section.

Facebook Page

We are going to do Facebook first because sometimes they will require that you get “50 Likes” before you can get your custom URL/Username. So we’ll get this setup and get our page to 50 likes so we can get our “username” and custom “URL”

Instagram Profile

Instagram will be second because they share the same parent company (Meta) with Facebook.

Twitter Account

Twitter is the next platform we are going to be signing up for.

LinkedIn Business Page

LinkedIn’s Business Pages work like Facebook Pages but with a larger reach for those who take advantage of the platform. So we will be signin up for this next.

Google Business Profile (Previously Known As Google My Business)

We saved the best for last. But, it’s also known to be the platform to cause gray hair and balding. (Trust me I know!) This is the trickiest platform but when you figure it out for your business, IT DELIVERS!

NOTE: As I cover ANY content about SEO, Search Engine Optimization, ranking, or anything similar, I DO NOT MAKE ANY GUARANTEES. ONLY Google controls Google. So if you’re looking for “Shortcuts” to “Game the system”, you will not find them here.

Every city is different, and so is every business. While that may sound basic, Google used that to complicate some stuff. But don’t worry I’ve simplified it for you.

Home Inspector Website Design

Now that you have your domain & email set up properly, the next step is to get your website live. Of course, there are some things you should know first.

What Does Website Design Cost

The first question most home inspectors ask is “How much does it cost to make a home inspection website?“. Honestly, this is like asking how much it costs to build a house. Annual cost that will stay the same for everyone is your Domain & Hosting. We already covered our domain, so when you look at the hosting, it is billed at $26 per month.

How Long Does It Take To Make A Website?

The second question is “How long does it take to build a home inspector website?“. This will depend on who’s making the site as well as how much customization you want on your website. If it’s just a basic home inspection website, I can build one in about an hour with the Home Inspector Website Templates that I’ve built.

WordPress Website Hosting

Getting started, your website hosting is the second most important part of your website, ONLY behind your domain. If your website hosting is slow, or doesn’t work, so is your website.

After making websites exclusively on WordPress, I have finally found the best WordPress website host. You not only get THREE DAYS OF FREE HOSTING, but they will also handle the WordPress installation as well.

Search Engine Optimization

When it comes to the power behind having a website, Search Engine Optimization, or SEO for short, is very important. Without SEO, you likely WILL NOT RANK when someone searches for home inspectors in your area.

While we all would love to rank immediately for our main keywords, unfortunately it’s not likely going to happen overnight. The only rule for SEO that remains the same, regardless of the algorithm changes, is that SEO takes time.
